Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Kawasaki) has signed a purchase agreement in July 2026 to introduce a Multi-Pilot Virtual Reality (VR) simulator for the latest BK117 helicopter model, the H145/BK117 D-3 (the VR Simulator).
The VR Simulator is developed and manufactured by Loft Dynamics AG, a Switzerland-based company. Utilizing advanced VR technology and a wide field of view, the simulator recreates a highly realistic flight environment that closely replicates real-world helicopter operations in a virtual setting. As a state-of-the-art training device, it enables safe, efficient, and effective flight training. Through the introduction of the VR Simulator, Kawasaki will expand its training services and increase training opportunities for domestic and international helicopter operators, enabling it to meet a broader range of training requirements.
The BK117 series is a helicopter jointly developed by Kawasaki and Airbus Helicopters through an international partnership and is widely used in fields such as firefighting and disaster response, emergency medical services, police operations, news gathering, and cargo transportation. As a co-developer of the BK117 series, Kawasaki established the Kawasaki Training Center at its Gifu Works in 2019 and has since provided pilot and maintenance training services for the BK117 D-2 and D-3 models. Kawasaki is committed to addressing the shortage of skilled personnel in the aviation industry and further enhancing aviation safety. Through the development of aviation professionals who support critical social infrastructure, Kawasaki will continue contributing to the advancement of the aviation sector and the communities it serves.
